NOTES FROM THE UFO CHRONOLGOY

It's implied in this story that SHADO knows the location of the aliens' planet, suggesting it takes place after the events of "Close Up".

DIDJA KNOW?

This is a 6-page, self-contained story in Countdown #45, December 25, 1971.

DIDJA NOTICE?

This story introduces the prototype of a new SHADO assault plane called the X1. Unfortunately, it is immediately destroyed by a UFO during it first test flight.

On page 1 of the story, Straker remarks that this is the fourth project the aliens have destroyed this year.

Page 2 of the story introduces a fairly cool-looking SHADO security chopper.

The aliens go without helmets on pages 2 and 3, yet when they take on Straker later, they are wearing helmets again. If they have found a means of breathing Earth's atmosphere without significant damage, why bother to put the helmets on again?

Page 4 of the story reveals that the aliens have their own version of amnesia induction (like the amnesia drug used by SHADO), which they inflict on Straker and Freeman before setting them free.

UNANSWERED QUESTIONS

What were the aliens holding over Owen to make him betray SHADO? It's never revealed.
